Sanyo ECJ-HC55S 5-1/2 Cup Rice Cooker and Slow Cooker

Sanyo ECJ-HC55S 5-1/2-Cup Micro-Computerized Rice Cooker and Slow Cooker, White

This Sanyo ECJ-HC55S 5-1/2 Cup Rice Cooker was my replacement for a National fuzzy logic which I previously used a minimum of 3 to 4 times a week for five a year period. With all these new kids of rice cookers being produced it took some searching to hunt down a unit that had the functions that I needed, without getting a bunch that I had no need for. I have no use for baking a cake in a rice cooker. The things I need most are the slow cooker functions and the rice functions. For the most part I cook short-grain brown rice and this unit makes it much more speedily than my previous National. I was also happy that this rice cooker is sold with an additional pan and lid for the slow-cooker, so it is an excellent value.

If you really need to how long the cook cycles are, I recommend you time them the first time you make use of them, since the instruction book doesn't tell how long they are. The National I used to own would display how long the cycle was to last whenever you started a cycle, for example when I used the standard cycle it displayed 43 minutes on the timer. The Sanyo ECJ-HC55S only displays the remaining time when it reaches the final 15 minutes. The brown rice cycle takes a whole seventy five minutes. I made quinoa using the quick cycle recently and it was finished in around thirty minutes.

One more option I appreciate on this unit, constrasted with the National, is that the lid is not as hard to clean. The National would bubble up into the steam vents and get messy and that was a hassle to remove from the rubber-gasket, but this new Sanyo does not bubble up like that and the lid hardly needs to be cleaned after making rice. It would be great if all rice cooker manufacturers made these removable upper-lids so that they would be easier to clean. I also appreciate that this rice cooker has a slow-cooker and that you can use either high or low slow-cook cycles.

This rice cooker ideal for a couple or family of 3 or so, but if you often cook for more people than that, then I suggest you buy the bigger model

Great value, great cooker, I highly recommend it.
